Based on a June 29, 2018 legal decision, changes to Medicaid under Kentucky HEALTH did
begin on July 1, 2018 as planned. Please click here for more resources and information about how this impacts Medicaid in Kentucky.
Description: The My Rewards Account (MRA) provides incentives for beneficiaries to improve their health while actively participating in the community. A MRA is an account for most adults eligible for Kentucky HEALTH. The MRA works like a Health Spending Account. Beneficiaries earn dollars into their MRA by completing qualifying activities. Half of any unused Deductible Account funds may go into a beneficiary's My Rewards Account at the end of the year.
Timing: People who are on Medicaid now and are eligible for Kentucky HEALTH may earn My Rewards dollars before Kentucky HEALTH begins.
January 1, 2018: Beneficiaries began automatically earning dollars by getting preventive health services. This includes things like getting a physical check-up, comprehensive preventive dental exam, or comprehensive vision exam. Beneficiaries may also earn dollars for taking their dependent child in for any of these services.
April 1, 2018: Beneficiaries began earning dollars by completing online My Rewards education and training activities at CitizenConnect.ky.gov
Beneficiaries can begin to access their My Rewards Accounts when Kentucky HEALTH goes into effect
Currently, beneficiaries' Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) cover Medicaid-approved dental and vision services. Once Kentucky HEALTH begins, some adult beneficiaries will use their My Rewards Account for non-medical vision and dental services (medical vision and dental needs will still be covered by MCO).
Who is Impacted?
Medicaid Expansion adults
Medically frail individuals
Former foster youth up to age 26
Who is Not Impacted?
Until Kentucky HEALTH begins, all qualifying activities will be credited to an individual's My Rewards Account. Once Kentucky HEALTH begins, beneficiaries may use My Rewards dollars to pay for Medicaid-approved services that are not covered by their Managed Care Organization. For example, some adults in Kentucky HEALTH will use My Rewards dollars to pay for non-medical dental and vision services when Kentucky HEALTH begins.
